About us

Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is a member-driven society. It is an independent, nonpartisan, non-government and non-profit organisation that promotes the conservation of Malaysia's natural heritage. Among our major achievements are the protection of Kuala Selangor Nature Park, Dark Caves at Batu Caves, Endau Rompin National Park and the Royal Belum State Park

MNS comprises of a Branch in each Malaysian state, including Selangor.

Every individual has a role to play in conserving Malaysia's natural heritage

We collaborate with a coalition of like-minded non-governmental organisations; and local, state, federal and indigenous stakeholders on environmental and conservation concerns, for example the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve, and the Batu Caves Scientific Expedition 2018/2020

MNS Selangor Branch comprises the Branch Committee and the Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Run by MNS member volunteers, both Branch and SIG committees organise field trips and activities for members.

Did you know that as a member of MNS, regardless of whichever branch state you are with, you can join events organised by other MNS branches!

How do I find out What's Happening at MNS Selangor?

Hmm...that's a difficult question to answer 😅 The MNS Selangor Branch is the largest of all the MNS branches. With as many as 9 special interest groups, all run by volunteers busy with full-time jobs and family, we don't have a central way to find out what's happening in all the groups. We can only offer you advice...

1. By Interest Group: Follow the social media pages of the relevant interest groups and watch out for what's being posted.

2. By Event Calendar: Occasionally updated

3. By Selangor Branch Website: Occasionally updated

3. By Field Notes: This is a roundup of activities that has happened or will happen.

MNS Selangor Members with communication and basic website skills wishing to help volunteer to track down branch & SIG events, please contact branch@mnsselangorbranch.org

What's the Difference?

People are often confused between MNS Secretariat (MNS HQ) and MNS Selangor Branch. MNS HQ are salaried staff that run the Society's daily operations whereas the Selangor Branch comprises MNS members residing in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.

See the graphic below for clarification.

Did you know the symbol of the Society is a design of the Malayan Tapir? It is one of the few large mammals still surviving in the Malaysian rain forests today.
