Report: Birding day trip to Sungai Janggut
SBBG birding day trip to Sungai Janggut, Selangor
It’s the Northern Winter, which means it’s wader watching time! Selangor Branch Bird Group (SBBG)'s day trip to Sg. Janggut and Jeram, Selangor was to see these wonderful winter visitors on 19th November 2023 (Sunday). Overlooking an expanse of mudflats near the Sg. Janggut estuary, the location is a magnet for various species of shorebirds as they migrate south. The day trip was organised by Ashraf.
Twenty-six species of shorebirds were observed foraging along the mudflats consisting of Common Redshanks, Whimbrels, Sand-plovers, Terek, Curlew, Broad-billed & Common Sandpipers, Ruddy Turnstones, Red necked Stints, terns and many more species; each displaying unique feeding behaviours. Sixteen SBBG members were delightedly treated to the sight of flocks of waders taking flight in astounding murmurations, what one would describe as “Nat Geo” moments.
